Ouray County is located in southwest Colorado and encompasses a diverse landscape, including the headwaters of the Uncompahgre River in the high country of the San Juan Mountains, the broad mesas of the Uncompahgre Plateau region, and the valley of the Uncompahgre River. The county covers 542 square miles, has a population of approximately 4,800 residents, and has two incorporated municipalities: the City of Ouray, the county seat, and the Town of Ridgway. Visitors from around the world are drawn to Ouray County for its history, natural beauty, and variety of outdoor activities.

The Ouray County Public Health Agency's mission is to promote and protect the health and environment of Ouray County residents. The Public Health Agency administers programs that affect the county as a whole, working to communicate, educate, and offer services that will provide a healthy, safe environment in which to live and work.

The Registered Nurse / Health Educator will provide public health nursing services and public health education on behalf of the Ouray County Public Health Agency. Essential functions of this position include immunizations, developmental screening of children, Tuberculosis Surveillance, Communicable Disease investigation, and other projects as agreed upon by the Director of Public Health and the Registered Nurse. This position provides public health education on various public health related matters as assigned by the Public Health Director. Public Health experience or training is necessary to be able to function in this capacity. An understanding of vaccination schedules for all ages and an understanding of normal developmental stages of children is required.

Candidates must have a bachelor’s degree in Nursing from an accredited school of nursing by the National League for Nursing, and 3-5 years of experience in a public health department or clinical practice. Candidates must have experience vaccinating infants through elderly, experience with public health outreach on various public health services, prevention and wellness, and be licensed in the State of Colorado as a Registered Nurse by time of hire.
