QUALIFICATIONS:
The person selected for this position must be professionally prepared as a teacher of young children, especially in the field of early childhood education and/or child development; and be able to meet the requirements of the state licensing agency.
They must hold either a teaching qualification and/or be group leader qualified with extensive experience per licensing requirements. They must be prepared to partake in a minimum of 15 hours per academic year for further training as appropriate to early childhood education.
Personal qualifications include the ability to interact effectively with children, parents and co workers. They must be flexible and supportive of the school [policies and philosophy; have good health and the ability to physically lift children, and attend designated school functions on and off campus.
RESPONSIBILITIES:
Responsibilities will include but are not limited to:
Maintaining professional attitudes and loyalty to the school at all times.
Maintaining confidentiality in regard to children, their families and the staff.
Maintaining professional appearance and punctuality.
Planning, supervising and implementing appropriate activities, both independently and with other preschool staff. This includes leading open ended activities for multi aged groups, circle time, leading whole school sing-a-long, field trips, school programs, special events and activities.
Uploading daily activities in Brightwheel.
Uploading developmental documentation in TS Gold.
Gearing the program to the needs of the individual children with concern for their developmental level, interests, abilities, special talents, individual learning style and pace of learning.
Considering the individual children in their relationship to culture and socio economic background.
Treating all children, parents, colleagues with respect and dignity.
Handling discipline in accordance to T.R.A.C.K. (Truthful, Responsible and Respectful, Assertive, Cooperative, Kind.) At all times acknowledging the feelings of the child.
Providing a positive role model for the children.
Helping children to become aware of and develop their roles as integral members of a larger group.
Being responsible for ordered arrangement, appearance, décor and learning environment of the classroom per ECCERS/ITTERS recommendations
Assuming an equal share in the housekeeping of the school.
Insuring the health and safety of children both indoors and outdoors
Follow nap/rest, diapering, potty training, and hand washing procedures as specified by licensing, health and safety, and ITTERS/ECCERS
Modeling appropriate interactions with children for assistant teachers, volunteers, aides and supervising them with children and their daily responsibilities.
Assisting the director in explaining the program to visitors and parents.
Informing the director of any individual needs, concerns, inappropriate behavior of the children.
Reporting to the director any cases of suspected child abuse and/or neglect.
Establishing a positive liaison with parents of the children.
Conducting individual conferences at least twice a year.
Sending out monthly parent letters to communicate any special occasions, up and coming themes and/or projects. ( this is in addition to daily reports)
Attending and contributing toward monthly staff meetings.
Following cell phone policy outlined in the employment agreement
Utilizes positive verbal communication (i.e. No negative phrases, such as “No thank you”. Must phrase what you would like the child to do or redirect) and adheres to guidance policy in personnel policies
Reading and understanding school policies, personnel policies and parent handbook.
Must be available from 7:30am-5:30pm, M-F, for varying hours adding up to 40 hours a week.
